Europe will once again have a direct air connection with Tehran, after more than five months of suspension. According to Iranian news agency IRNA, Austrian Airlines resumes flights to the capital of Iran from this MondayNovember 3rd.
The source cited by IRNA is Ramin Kashaf-Azar, acting head of the Imam Khomeini Airport City Company. The Austrian airline’s first flight is scheduled to land in Tehran at 2:30 am (local time). An hour later, the plane will return to Vienna.
Attendance is scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. For now, the company will offer “limited weekly services”, but has “a broader plan to expand operations in the Middle East”. The company is expected to gradually increase the number of flights in the coming months, although without indicating specific numbers or dates.
In addition to Austrian Airlines, Ramin Kashaf-Azar told the agency that German Lufthansa is also expected to resume flights to the Iranian capital next month. These flights — the only ones connecting Europe directly to Iran — were suspended five months ago, when the 12 day war between Israel and Iran.
